Learning the Calm: Integrating Mind, Body, and Heart
Our program weaves together yoga, mindfulness, and social-emotional learning skills to create a comprehensive approach to wellness. From infants to educators, participants discover how mindful movement, conscious breathing, and compassionate connection work in harmony to nurture both mental and physical health.
Our Approach
Through guided yoga practices, we explore the powerful connection between breath, movement, and intention. Mindfulness exercises help participants develop emotional awareness and self-regulation skills, while partner and group activities foster meaningful connections and teamwork.
Educational Framework
CASEL, the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning, is the source of national Pre-K through grade 12 SEL learning standards. CASEL’s 5 core competencies are at the heart of Learning the Calm:
- Self-Awareness—Recognizing one’s emotions and values, as well as one’s strengths and limitations
- Self-Management—Managing emotions and behaviors to achieve one’s goals
- Responsible Decision-Making—Making ethical, constructive choices about personal and social behavior
- Relationship Skills—Forming positive relationships, working in teams, coping with conflict
- Social Awareness—Showing understanding and empathy for others
These skills emerge organically through our mindful movement practices, breathing exercises, and collaborative activities. Our programs are inclusive and trauma-informed, where everyone is invited to open their ears, minds, and hearts to new things.

Infants & Young Toddlers

The gentle chime of a singing bowl marks the beginning of each session, drawing curious young minds into a world of mindful discovery. In these nurturing 15-20 minute weekly or bi-weekly classes, teachers guide our littlest learners through gentle movements and breathing exercises. These foundational practices support:
- Healthy physical development and neuromuscular coordination
- Enhanced sleep patterns
- Improved digestion
- Secure attachment and bonding
- Early self-esteem development
Older Toddlers & Preschoolers

In these engaging 20-30 minute sessions, held weekly or bi-weekly, children embark on a journey of self-discovery through yoga, breathing techniques, and mindfulness activities. We explore monthly themes such as gratitude, compassion, and collaboration to teach social and emotional life skills at an age-appropriate level and have fun using props such as stuffed animals, puppets, and books. Our classes will help children:
- Develop strong, flexible bodies
- Build focus and concentration
- Master self-regulation skills
- Form meaningful friendships
- Cultivate emotional awareness
- Practice social skills
Educators' Wellness Program

Early childhood educators face unique challenges that demand both physical and emotional resilience. Our comprehensive 60 or 90-minute sessions, designed for professional development days and staff meetings, provide educators with the tools to not only teach social-emotional skills but to embody them. Each session flows through eight essential components:
- Settle-in: Ground yourself through centering practices that connect you to the present moment
- Breath Awareness: Harness the power of breathing to reduce stress and increase presence
- Mindful Movement: Strengthen the mind-body connection through gentle yoga practices
- Community Connection: Build supportive relationships through meaningful partner and group work
- Focus: Sharpen mental clarity through guided visualizations and mindfulness techniques
- Creative Expression: Tap into your creative potential through reflection and dialogue
- Relaxation: Restore your energy through purposeful rest and rejuvenation
- Closing: Integrate your experience through intentional completion
This comprehensive approach helps educators develop the personal tools needed to model social-emotional skills effectively while maintaining their own well-being.

An important complement to the student programs is the blog for parents and teachers. This document describes skills learned during that period, tips to support learning at home or in the classroom, and shows the value of Learning the Calm for their family and school.
